Our featured project was completed in June 2012 for Mr. and Mrs. West of Purley, South London. It was designed and built by SLR. This building is split into three areas. There is a children’s play/games room incorporating a flat screen TV for movies and games consoles.
There is a small office which Mr. West uses for his business and a storage area at the rear. The building comprises of 150mm concrete slab with waterproof membrane, a timber-stud construction which is both sound and heat insulated, a Marley Eternite slate double-pitched roof, incorporating purling which protrude through the front wall to give the building that Swiss chalet look.
The front is finished with a decked veranda and vertical sustainable softwood cladding, finished in a dark stain. There is LED lighting both inside and outside the building which not only looks good, but is very efficient to run. The building is connected to the main house by intercom. The windows are laminated double-glazed glass, which provides both warmth and security. The inner walls have sound-dampening plasterboard with a gorgeous birch ply finish which completed the quality look and feel of the building.
